MEDIATION AND COURT CONGESTION

  1. Mediation is the best alternative means of resolving conflict without injuries on both parties.

  7. Major challenge in the nation’s legal profession
    The challenges are many. Majorly, the courts are too congested. Today, congestion in the Courts leaves judges completely overwhelmed.   8. Justice Jumoke Pedro of a Lagos High Court on Friday 5th October, 2018 urged lawyers to acquire training in mediation as part of efforts to reduce congestion of cases at the courts. She spoke at the 4th induction  ceremony of the Associate Mediation Advocates in Nigeria organised by the Standing Conference of Mediation Advocates (SCMA) at Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse, Igbosere High Court on Lagos Island. The mediation, as used in law, is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) used in resolving disputes between two or more parties with concrete effects. The former chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapheron September 22, 2011 testified before the  Nigerian senate saying, “We have over 1500 appeals before the Supreme Court, at the moment we are still dealing with 2000 and 2001 appeals in 2011. This is the problem.” unquote! The solution to this problem is MEDIATION.
  10. Mediation therefore, remain the ONLY reliable option to overcome “major challenge in the nation`s legal profession”, as an alternative means to drastically reduce court cases congestions and justice delayed.
